Alfie Barker is a British writer and director from Leeds, who grew up making short films with his dog instead of going to university. His work shines light on social stories that are normally centred around community.


His BFI-funded short HANGING ON was nominated for the Best Short Film Award at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), long-listed for a BIFA, which went onto screen at BFI LFF, winning Best British Short Award at both Encounters and Aesthetica. 


His short HALF WAY starring Sameena Jabeen Ahmed, premiered and won Best British Short at Leeds International Film Festival. He is a previous BFI Future Film Award winner, Sundance Ignite Finalist and Berlinale Talent 2024. 


He is currently developing his debut feature, his projects have been selected for the prestigious TIFF Filmmaker Lab, Le Groupe Ouest’s LIM: Less Is More (renowned European screenwriting programme) and Creative UK’s ShortFLIX: a scheme for under-represented voices.
