Alfie Barker is a Leeds born/based writer and director who grew up making short films with his dog instead of going to uni. His work shines light on social stories that are normally centred around community.

His recent BFI-funded fiction short HALF WAY starring Sameena Jabeen Ahmed, premiered and won Best British Short Film at Leeds International Film Festival 2023.

His short HANGING ON premiered at TIFF (Toronto), long-listed for a BIFA, shortlisted for a Grierson Award which went onto screen at BFI LFF, winning both Best British Short and UK Audience Award at Encounters FF.

He is a previous BFI Future Film Award winner, Sundance Ignite Finalist and Berlinale Talent 2024. 

Alfie is developing his debut feature, selected for the prestigious TIFF filmmaker lab and Le Groupe Ouest’s LIM: Less Is More (renowned European screenwriting programme), with Hollie Bryan producing.

His short film THE ZEBRA received development funds from the Uncertain Kingdom 2024.
