Alfie Barker is a British writer and director from Leeds, who grew up making short films with his dog instead of going to university. His work shines light on social stories, told through an artistic surrealist lens.
His upcoming short THE ZEBRA, winner of the 76th Berlinale Dream Makers Contest by CUPRA, will be produced by Academy Award nominee JA Bayona and Marcus Loges in association with Studio Babblesberg.
His short HANGING ON premiered at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), long-listed for a BIFA, which went onto screen at BFI LFF, winning Best British Short Award at both Encounters and Aesthetica. His BFI-funded short HALF WAY starring Sameena Jabeen Ahmed, won Best British Short at Leeds International Film Festival.
Currently developing his debut feature, his projects have been selected for the prestigious TIFF Filmmaker Lab, Le Groupe Ouest’s LIM: Less Is More (renowned European screenwriting programme) and Creative UK’s ShortFLIX: a scheme for under-represented voices. He’s a previous BFI Future Film Award winner and Sundance Ignite Finalist.
